Undrafteds/Barry Bonds

Lonnie (or is it "Lonny?") was drafted by the Bulls in the 2nd round,
about nine picks before the Cs picked up Songaila. He and Sam Clancy were
the two bangers (yuck -- sausages) I was hoping would stick around for the
Cs. Looks like Chicago agrees with me -- Baxter made the team and the
active roster.

As to the whole Barry Bonds debate.... I concur with Cecil. If Paul
Pierce turns out to be the Barry Bonds of the NBA, I'll be thrilled.
Right now I'd say that if that distinction belongs to anyone, it belongs
to Shaquille -- a guy you can't do anything with but give him a free pass.
But even then, I don't think anyone could seriously argue that Shaq is
the greatest NBA player of all time. I think one can credibly make that
argument for Bonds. Perhaps Bonds is a dickhead -- he certainly doesn't
like the media (and frankly, I don't blame him for that). Maybe all of
his teammates really do hate him. But how many of you Red Sox fans out
there would want him playing left field in Beantown? My hand's up.

I think Pierce has a long way to go before we can begin to mention him in
the same breath as all-time greats. Fortunately, he's got time.
