CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Former NBA player M.L. Carr, a native North
Carolinian, was appointed president of the WNBA's Charlotte Sting on
Thursday.

The appointment was made by the league, which has taken over control of the
team following the move of the NBA's Charlotte Hornets to New Orleans.

Carr, who was raised in Wallace, N.C. and played at Guilford College in
Greensboro, played one season in the ABA and nine more in the NBA with
Detroit and Boston. He was coach of the Celtics from 1995-97.

There also have been reports that Carr and former Celtics teammate Larry
Bird are interested in helping bring an NBA team back to Charlotte.
