Re: why league official might prefer NJ

One more reason: Celts have no white players? Maybe, maybe not.

Great post by Mark, just wanted to address this minor point:

"Why on earth would the NBA or NBC want to send Jersey to the
Finals instead of the Celtics? "

- most important - NJ = NY in terms of potential TV market, therefore NJ-LA
is league's marketing dream match-up
- also, Kidd is apparently considered more of a superstar and hence more of
a draw for 'average viewer' than Walker/Pierce (not just on the court -
haven't you noticed they've only shown Kobe and Kidd in those annoying ads
shot with the trophy. Of course this might be related to the fact that the
Cs rarely appeared on natl TV . . . )
- NJ is run now by Rod Thorn, who if I'm not mistaken used to be a close
asst to the Commish?
- Cs play an ugly brand of basketball unlike Kidd-ettes who actually have an
offensive scheme that doesn't induce eyestrain.
- doesn't the Commish just like to stick it to Boston anyway (Lewis's salary
counting on the cap)?
