trade woes

Maybe I'm the problem and not the Celts' management. Maybe it's because I fall in love with our rookies and enjoy the romance of seeing them blossom and contribute over the long term. Maybe it's me.

But I still miss JJ and his multi-dimensional game. I don't know where it's written in stone that you gotta have fire or that such fire can't develop along with other abilities. Did George Gervin ever exhibit that fire, or Johnny Unitas? We so easily categorize those we wish to cast aside. Now, it looks like we might have to stigmatize Joseph Forte as forever too small, a perennial back-up, or somesuch--he's not a promising youngster now but trade-bait for another aging "star" from out West. Well, I still think JJ has the stuff and needs a coach; I still think Forte could do for us what he's done all week. Don't we need a 2/1 who can bring points, energy, rebounds? But we already traded the farm for one such player--Tony Delk, sure.

While I think Vin Baker could do much better in Boston than Seattle, it's like the trade for Rogers. I like Rogers, but not at the cost of JJ. Same with Forte. This is too much of a sliding sideways trade. Why keep giving up talent so easily?

I think the problem is O'Brien, not Wallace, but it doesn't much matter. O'Brien's quote that Songaila is an "undersized pf" leaves me cold. At 6'9" and 250, O'Brien wants him to exhibit sf abilities. How about let him muscle up a little more? Enough of the swingman mentality! Oh, well. It looks like Bremer can shoot and I'm still convinced--albeit on scant evidence--that his defensive footwork is superior. Cheers, Gene
