Celtics' squad has an interesting look

By Shira Springer, Globe Staff, 7/11/2002

The Celtics' entry in the Shaw's Pro Summer League will feature familiar
players, foreign players, and some who are a combination. The most
recognizable names on the roster are current players Joseph Forte,
Kedrick Brown, and Omar Cook, as well as former second-round draft pick
Kris Clack.

Fans will also get their first look at the team's second-round draft
pick this year, Darius Songaila, a Wake Forest graduate originally from
Lithuania. A large corps of overseas representatives complete the list,
including Milan Gurovic, Jaka Lakovic, Kostas Maglos, and Demos Dekutis.

(Moi: Kostas Maglo: Ex Boston College player toiling for Panionios B.C.
Smirni
in his native Greece. Averaged 8.1 points and 5.4 rebounds in 16 minutes
of playing time.)

The nine other teams will bring a similar mix to the Clark Athletic
Center at UMass-Boston when play starts Monday and continues through
July 21. Former Celtics Chris Carr (Atlanta) and Roshown McLeod
(Wasington) will be there, and Dan Gadzuric (Milwaukee), Scoonie Penn
(Milwaukee), Khalid El-Amin (Minnesota), and Kevin Freeman (New York)
will be among those returning to New England.

Fans will also see several 2002 first-round selections. Washington will
bring Jared Jeffries and Juan Dixon, and Dan Dickau will compete for
Atlanta. Milwaukee will field four rookies, including Gadzuric, Ronald
Murray, Jamal Sampson and Marcus Haislip. Adding to the newcomer total
will be John Salmons (Philadelphia), Ryan Humphrey (Orlando), and Frank
Williams (New York).

The Celtics open the summer league at 6 p.m. with a rematch of the
Eastern Conference finals against the Nets. Richard Jefferson, Jason
Collins, and Brian Scalabrine, who were with New Jersey during its run
to the Finals, will return to Boston. Tickets are $10 per session and
can be purchased at the FleetCenter box office, by calling
1-800-4-NBA-TIX, or by logging onto celtics.com. Tickets will also be on
sale at the door.
