You are speaking of the WBL, the World Basketball League (6'5 and under)
which featured the Halifax Windjammers, whose roster was graced by, among
others, former BC Eagle captain Steve Benton and Indiana captain Keith
Smart.

I was lucky enough to have been their television play by play broadcaster
for year one of their operations which saw an opening night crowd of 8,500.
It was an instant love affair between the players and fans...until the
league folded midway through the second year.
