Q's daily take for Monday, Jan 12, 2001

 Hi Folks:

Shaq only got 3 games and a 15000 dollar fine. That is sheer hypocrisy on
David Stern's part. Miller could have got seriously hurt if Shaq had
connected. He has to know that people will hack him in the 4th quarter in
tight games. A serious loss of control and a bad example of behavior on the
basketball court. I am outraged at this light punishment Shaq got and I have
to wonder if it was done to save customers who want to see Shaq play.

The referees have their hands full in any future game Shaq plays in. Strong
centers like Ostertag, Miller, Oakley, Potapenko have a right to try to
dislodge Shaq from the blocks. The new rules make it legal to double him and
deny the entry pass into the post (that is the correct way to defend Shaq
anyway plus block him off the boards). Be prepared for lots of fouls and a
slow non-flowing game if you play the Lakers. Outshoot them from the line if
you expect to beat them.

While, back to the Celtics who appear to be gaining confidence as time goes
on. I look forward to thumping the Nix Wednesday as they appear to be
imploding rapidly. I looked for Miami to be resurgent, but being blasted in
Phoenix does not bode well for the Heat. Boston ought to pay these jokers back
next time they play. The Nets finally have tough competition, but they come to
play every night. Toronto botched another game at home to the Clippers and
have been barely winning. For the Celtics, they are playing a lot of teams
with marginal records for the rest of the month and can open space between
them and the middle of the pack. It's not inconcievable that Obie could coach
the All-Star team this year. Wouldn't that be something?
