RE: Bremer makes his move

Pointing out another team's mistake doesn't excuse Wallace's. You found a
lot of NBA types on both sides of the Mutombo deal for Jersey (remember,
Thorn was dealing with the added pressure of winning it all this year to try
to entice Kidd to stay). Try finding one other NBA voice that thought or
thinks the Baker trade was a good move. Who would I rather have? Mutombo in
a heartbeat.

Other than the Delk/Rogers trade, what has Wallace done right? Executive of
the Year? Are you kidding me? He brought in Vin Baker, Bruno Sundov, J.R.
Bremer, Walter McCarty and Shammond Williams and let Rodney Rogers walk.
Just because he's in charge while the team is playing well doesn't mean he
has done a good job. Obie should be coach of the year, but Wallace? Please.
By that logic, shouldn't we consider Paul Gaston a successful owner?

If that's the sentiment, would you trade Vin Baker
straight up for Dikembe Mutombo?

You saw Dikembe in the playoffs. You know his age. He
will make 19.6 million dollars during the 2005 season.

If I were on a Nets mailing list (highly unlikely
hypothetical) I'd be more morose about the team's
direction than I am about the Celtics.

I doubt Jason Kidd is going to win a championship in
Jersey, which is the same thing as saying he's as good as
gone this summer. Is there any cap space to replace him
with another FA? Fuhgettaboutit.

Again, I'm not defending Chris Wallace. I think his five-
year plan was a con...a job application. Its hard to
believe the Baker trade would have fit into any credible
blueprint.

I'm just remarking about perspective.

Orlando was a model franchise two years ago, NJ was that
last year. As ridiculous and unwarranted as it sounds,
Chris Wallace is probably in second place right now for
GM of the year.

Every prediction I recall had the Celtics slow out of the
gate, and trailing Atlanta and the Jordan/Stackhouse
Wizards by season's end.

We can harp on our GM's weak-ass decisions, but fans can
fuss that away about deadweight on the cap and poor
signings on all 28 other teams.
