In fact, I hope I'm not that far apart from Kim here, but
by "good journeyman" we may still be talking about a
specialist (not a star) who was a recent 6th man of the
year and actually continued to play just like one last
year against the likes of 6th MOY "Scoreless Williamson"
etc.

I feel we have to factor in that Boston would have made a
first round exit without Rodney Rogers. That's right.
Finito.

I suppose one could dispute that assertion. But I think
Dikimbe (and Ben Wallace) would have smothered an
inexperienced Boston team if Rogers didn't take them out
of the game. It was a great strategy, and the key to
defeating Philly and then routing Detroit.

But I'd add that Kim is right about Rodney Rogers' slow
reactions etc. Compared to his 6th man credentials and
his consistent boxscore productivity, his actual play
often made me wonder if he's overhyped/not-that-valuable
etc.

When he first came to Boston and I knew a lot less about
him, I anticipated seeing an in-control, good shot
selection reproach to Antoine Walker...someone Walker
would be IF he shot the ball half as often etc.

But in the end what Rodney really demonstrated was what
an unusual athlete Walker is. Our guy is a good two
inches or more bigger, much much quicker, incredible
handle, built just as tough and rugged. Passing vision?
Fuhgetaboutit. Even the most biased observer would admit
they simply do not compare in natural talent. Not by
a "longshot" (one talent they both share). In this sense,
Rodney Rogers is a reminder of how unique Antoine is, and
the great potential he still may have that other forwards
have never had.

We lost an affordable and versatile 10 ppg game scorer
off the bench. They don't grow on trees either. That's
the bottom line (IMO).
