I surfed into this article totally by accident and thought it of interest 
to the list. It is an old article dated  1 December  2000   Just FYI.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- On October 31st , Halloween Night,
                      the NBA tipped off the New Millennium 2000 season in
                      Madison Square Garden. They would celebrate the 50th
                      anniversary of integration. The N. Y. Knicks would 
host the
                      Philadelphia 76ers. In 1950, Red Auerbach eliminated NBA
                      racial barriers by drafting Chuck Cooper. In the 
Garden on
                      Halloween Night Earl Lloyd, the first Afro-American 
to play in
                      an NBA game, was honored.
