Often at this time of year list debate justifiably focuses on what sort of
shape Antoine bin Walker is in. So far the news is good, even great. But
there is other good news as well that has me in a pretty positive spirit.

1. Obie highlighting Kenny Anderson as being in great shape. Kenny is the
only guy he mentioned after the first day of practice, so there must be
something to it.

2. Shira's report that Eric Williams (who boasted he didn't lift a
basketball all summer last year) worked out two weeks per month this
summer at Health Point. Clearly, competition is good. Its not just good for
EW to have Joe Johnson and Kedrick Brown in camp, its also good for the
rookies to face an NBA defensive specialist during camp.

The new additions of Battie and Kenny (plus Joe Johnson) to our .500
lineup from last year suggests we may be able to build on that iffy
foundation. And that's nothing compared to the best-case-scenario news on
Antoine and Pierce. This year Boston's success is all about their
coming-out party. It is still their team, with JJ probably just a great
synergy player in the rookie-of-the-month Adrian Griffin mold. In future
seasons, hopefully we'll have our third All Star-calibre (and Old School
Celtics-calibre) player from among the three twenty-year-old kids (Johnson,
Forte and Kedrick) in camp. All three are good prospects, with the right
circumstances and coaching.
