In the spirit of the day just past, I'm thankful Miami and the Knicks no
longer look like perennial playoff locks, which you've got to admit has
significant positive ramifications for teams like the Celtics and Hawks.
I'm thankful the Greasy One, Pat "Crisco Systems" Riley, is having an even
more miserable Thanksgiving than Celtics fans are.
I'm thankful that the Celtics landed one of the leading ROY candidates in
the draft even without a lottery pick in single digits. It could have
looked a lot worse (Rodney White and Desagana Diop).
I'm thankful that Orlando and Philly are off to an even poorer record than
the Celtics. Its a reminder that things are tough for fans, not just
Celtics fans.
I'm also actually thankful that the Celtics captains are being featured in
SI. Hey, I hope they both respond by playing up to their abilities. I
believe the last time Bird made the cover of SI, he added an exclamation
point by scoring 60 points in a game. A great week of basketball from those
two would set us back on track.
I'm thankful that Jim "I don't care about offense" O'Brien has us gunning
away to 30+ treys a game...IF it brings a Bird homecoming any faster.
This hasn't been the most thankful turkey break and I can't blame a lot of
Bostonians (though probably none of us) who have jumped off the bandwagon
this week. So I'm not saying we should be thankful, but you've got to admit
things could be worse (we could launch 50 treys against Toronto).
Toronto (4th seed) is 1/2 game ahead of Boston in the standings. That's
something to play for. Bring 'em on. On paper I like our chances. I'll
write a preview later.
Go Celts
Joe
p.s. Do defenses seem to be figuring out how to stop us, or are we just
missing open treys (due to the rust of long layoffs)? I listen to the games
on the radio but haven't watched any on video yet this year.
