RE: interesting scoop on espn radio

Workouts can change things, but you have to figure
that Wallace & co. have already formed some opinions.
All they do all year is think about these guys. Boy,
if you want to appreciate our organization, check out
the chat session with Nate McMillan at NBA.com. He's
asked about six or seven different players (none of whom
btw the Sonics have any chance at) and he hasn't seen any
of them. "I have to look at tape," he keeps saying.

As for Rodney White, he does sound a lot like Antoine, but
you could do a lot worse for a third scorer. He and Bradley
might make a good balance. Anyway, how many guys average 19
points a game as Division I freshmen? They say he would have
rebounded more had he not enjoyed shooting jump shots too much...
who does that sound like? I had to laugh when I read his
scouting report at Maurer scouting. Listen to this and tell me
who it describes:

Good size and a NBA ready body although he played power forward and
center at Charlotte his NBA position will be small forward....
Versatile player who can take the inside pounding or float outside
for the 3-point shot .... Good agility and a excellent first step
that make him hard to guard on the perimeter ... Has a wide arrange
of inside post moves that enable him to finish among the trees ...
Has the athletic ability to run the floor and be a excellent finisher
.... Handles the ball well for a player of his size because of this he
has no problem creating scoring opportunities for himself ....
Unusually good free throw shooter for a player with his size and
age ... Plays with a tremendous amount of passion and energy ....
Has became a much stronger player thanks to his off-season weight training

Weakness: For all his ability he at times tries to do too much which
often leads into careless turnovers.... Even though his rebounding
numbers are good there far from showing what he can really do because
he doesn't get himself in the best of position underneath the boards
... Can fall in so much in love with shooting from the outside that
he neglects to go inside when it might be the best chance to score
.... Shot selection could still use a little work although this has
more to do with him understanding the game a little better ....
Defense like most young players could stand to improve especially
in the aspects of anticipation and lateral quickness ....

This is interesting, Josh, but it seems awfully strange. I can't imagine the
Celtics or any team would have zeroed in on anyone at this point. If so,
what are all the individual workouts for?

Regardless, it makes for fun speculation. For some reason, White isn't a guy
I've ever even thought about for the Celtics. The descriptions of him as a
'tweener forward in the mold of Antoine just made him seem like an unlikely
pick. But that's me falling into the "draft for need" trap-hopefully the
Celtics won't do that.

The fact that it came from Andy Katz lends a little credence to the report
in my mind. I'm sick of his preaching about guys going to/staying in school,
but I remember last year he was more accurate than anyone in the days
leading up to the draft. He seemed to have some excellent sources. We'll
see.

I've never seen White play. Can anyone share some thoughts on the guy?
