re: draft

I disagree with the comment about a player's school being important.
I think there are certain schools that lend real credibility to their
players and UNC is one of them, also Duke, Kentucky, etc. On the
other hand, Cincinnati, Memphis, UNLV, even Indiana do not have a good
track record.

Now, this is not so much their athletic skills but their reliability
as good citizens who will usually turn out to be as advertised. When
you come through those "A" schools, you have already been certified
for character, team play, and skill development. (Indiana is the
exception here, as Knight usually made his players into over-achievers
whose upside had already been seen). There are exceptions, but I
trust the products from certain programs. And I would be quite wary
of someone from those programs that simply go for talent.

That being said, I agree that Forte is not likely 6'4" and I don't
think I would take him at ten or eleven. But I would do extra time in
certifying the guy from Fresno State as I would any high schooler
whose ability to jump or reach the cabinet above the refrigerator is
his greatest recommendation.

Enjoyed reading the year-old rec. on Gerald Wallace. Alabama has a
pretty good record with their athletic players. Did Tracy McGready
get more attention than Wallace is getting? Was he more likely to
succeed? I'm getting old and don't remember.
