Obie did it

Well, it's time for Obie to start looking for a place in Lousville. It was a
classic Pitinoesque botch job - the Celtics were up by a dozen in the 2nd, he
takes Pierce out with Walker already out, leaving the potent offensive unit of
Blount, E.Williams, McCarty, Palacio, and Stith on the floor. Sure enough, the
C's lose momentum and the Spurs close within 1 at halftime. Late in the 3rd,
same deal: the C's behind 61-59 when Obie takes BOTH Toine and Paul out at the
same time. The next thing you know, the Spurs are up by 7 and leaving the C's
in their rearview mirror.
We had the Spurs on the ropes, up by 16 for a stretch, but the brilliant
substitutions and a liberal application of headless chicken outbreak turned
this into a blowout by the Spurs on a night when Pierce was simply brilliant.
You always, ALWAYS keep one of your stars in the game until it's over,
especially with the kind of 3-12 that we have, and play your best 5 as much as
possible (which does not, under ANY circumstances include McCarty!). I thought
Obie, unlike his predecessor, had figured that out, but I guess I was wrong.
Our remaining 3 starters had 0, 0, and 6 points. It didn't help that Walker had
a crappy night, but it's little surprise that he struggled against Duncan and
Robinson (he got his points almost exclusively against - you'll be shocked -
Malik Rose, a small forward).
On top of that, the Pacers win by a point tonight. Oh well, at least we don't
have Isiah as our coach.
