Kedrick Brown Draft Capsule
Kedrick Brown, 6-7, 225, Okaloosa-Walton CC (Oklahoma)
======================================================

OVERVIEW: A first-team JUCO All-American selection last season and a
two-time Panhandle Conference first-team honoree. Led Okaloosa Walton to
55-10 record in two seasons. Last season, he averaged 22.9 points, 8.8
rebounds and 3.0 assists. Shot 40.4 percent from 3-point range and scored 20
or more points 19 times. Scored 32 points in one NJCAA Tournament. Will try
to become the first JUCO player in recent memory to make a big splash in
NBA.

LIKELY DRAFT POSITION: Picks 18-24. There's speculation a team has promised
to take him in the first round if he came out. Rumors are just rumors, but
ESPN reported that some think Portland (19) made that promise. If that
doesn't hold up, Boston (21), Houston (18, 22), Utah (24), and Vancouver
(27) are potential suitors.

RIVALED BY: Steven Hunter
COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: Matt Harpring
COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE: Sherell Ford
ROLE PROJECTION: Towel waver. Future key reserve.

POSITIVES: Brown already has an NBA body. He's not as big as some of the
small forwards coming into the league nowadays, but he's got classic
swingman size. Brown's also a pretty good athlete who doesn't mind mixing it
up in the paint. In the NBA, however, his bread and butter is expected to be
the perimeter game. He's a good shooter who was prolific from beyond the arc
over his JC career.

SHORTCOMINGS: Brown is going to have to endure a major adjustment period.
It's a difficult transition for a player to jump between levels in which
there is such a huge talent discrepancy. Brown will most likely feel this in
terms of his perimeter shooting. Despite having such a good stroke, he isn't
used to having little timing or spacing from his defender to get off his
shot, largely because he was physically superior to almost all of his
counterparts at the JC level. Once he does adjust -- if he's still in the
league -- Brown has the potential to be a good NBA player.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING: "He's a terrific athlete. There are teams that like
him -- I think he's been assured (by a team) that he's going to go in the
first round -- that's why he didn't come here (Chicago Pre-Draft camp)." -
Atlanta Hawks general manager Pete Babcock
