This trade reminds me of some of the trades that Pitino pulled off during his earlier
days. It doesn't improve Portland and certainly doesn't improve the C's. Tell me why
should Portland bite, there goal is to win a championship not to ger younger otherwise
they would have never made the trade they did with Indiana. - Mishra

PRO HOOPS: Celts will try to move Walker
By MIKE FINE
The Patriot Ledger
For about 16 seconds after the final buzzer brings down the Boston
Celtics' 2000-01 season, management is going to reflect on what went
wrong.
Then it's going to roll up its collective sleeves and figure a way to
facilitate Antoine Walker's departure - permanently.

That said, what will Celtics brass do about 17 seconds after the season
ends?
Try to unload Vitaly Potapenko.<<
The BSG trade for Ostertag would take care of V. How about this trade to
take care of Twon?

Trade Checker
portland trades: Steve Smith $8,100,000 to boston
portland trades: Dale Davis $6,000,000 to boston
TOTAL: $14,100,000
boston trades: Antoine Walker $10,125,000 to portland (BYC Value
$7,593,750)
boston trades: Bryant Stith $5,920,000 to portland
TOTAL: $16,045,000
TRADE ACCEPTED
Due to portland and boston being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is
invoked. portland and boston had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of
the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here.
This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

The C's get significantly older and more veteran but also risk doing what
the Wiz did in moving Webber - getting older but not necessarily better. On
the other hand both Smith and Davis should remain attractive trade bait for
other teams and if not traded can at least show the ropes to Pierce and the
next draft class - which should remain the true focus. A line-up of:
C - Ostertag/Blount
PF - D. Davis/Battie/Moiso
SF - Pierce/Williams
SG - S. Smith/Pierce
PG Anderson/Brown/ Herren etc
shoul be at least competitive for the remainder of the year with plenty of
room to insert new rookies into the lineup without throwing them to the
lions by forcing the to start right off. Comments?
