Re: Sporting news article on Pierce

Much of his play last season was dictated by team needs - the additional
scoring, the assists, 3 point shooting. My hope is that with the
composition of the team changing - Joe Johnson, perhaps the return of Kenny
Anderson - that his game will improve in the direction that we all seem to
agree on: fewer forced shots, higher percentage inside offensive play that
gets him to the free throw line, more offensive rebounding, creating for
his teammates but not as the primary distributor. I still think he's going
to be shooting a lot of 3's because Pierce is going to need a spread
offense even more than before if he's going to work inside with the zone
defense.

Very nice post Alex. I'm thrilled with the level of posts on this board.
So many of you are articulate and clear headed, able to debate some pretty
emotional issues without degenerating into the "Antoine Sucks" posts of many
of the other boards.
I agree with you and to an extent Joe H., there is much to like about
Antoine. His will to win and enthusiasm are very high on my list, even more
enjoyable to watch, than his rebounding and passing skills, which are
formidable.
My query and my problem with Antoine, if it's true is: could the reson we
dont have and/or have been unable to develop a decent point guard be,
because of Antoine's self image? Does he just have to have the ball in his
hands every play? If so, let him follow Ophelia out the door.
