*** Oak Hill star declares for NBA Draft

MOUTH OF WILSON, Va. (AP) - De Sagana Diop, the 7-foot center for
unbeaten national high school champion Oak Hill Academy, declared
for the NBA draft Thursday. The 300-pounder from Senegal, heavily
recruited by Virginia and North Carolina among others, made the
announcement in a statement released by Oak Hill. He joins fellow
centers Tyson Chandler of Dominguez H.S. in Compton, Calif., and
Eddy Curry of Thornwood H.S. in South Holland, Ill., as high
school players who have declared for the draft, which will be
held June 27. "This is a great opportunity to help my family and
my country and to make them proud," Diop said. Hampered by a
stress fracture over the second half of the season, Diop still
averaged 14 points and 13 rebounds for Oak Hill, which was 33-0
and finished the season ranked No. 1 by USA Today. Diop was
selected as a McDonald's All-American, but missed the annual high
school all-star game because of his injury.
