Well, if we conservatily estimate that the Celtics would have done about the
same during the first part of the season as they have with Obie (> .500), that
would give them at least 42 wins, and place them in the playoffs at #7. Add to
that the injuries to Battie and others, and high 40s are not out of the
question. 

That reminds me of another excremental contribution by Peter May in today's
Globe:

"Tony Battie (five years, $22 million): Remember him? His season effectively
ended Dec. 30 when he sprained his ankle. Three months-plus may seem a bit much
for an ankle sprain, but Battie clearly is still in discomfort. Before he was
hurt, he appeared to be playing much more consistently, which always had been
his weakness. But the long outage hasn't done much to boost his image. And the
team started to roll after he went down."

Gee, Pete, do you think it might have had something to do with Obie's taking
over the team?! And to question how long a player has taken to come back from a
serious injury...What a loser this guy is...
