Boston Celtics forward Paul Pierce was stabbed multiple times early
Monday outside a nightclub, according to a broadcast report.

Pierce, 22, was stabbed 11 times, including once in the neck, WEEI radio
reported citing hospital sources. He was in and out of surgery and
``appears to be very lucky,'' WEEI said, quoting an unnamed hospital
source.

WEEI reported Pierce walked himself to the hospital.

Team spokesman Jeff Twist said he had no confirmation.

Boston police confirmed there was a stabbing but would not identify the
victim.

The 6-foot-7, 220-pound Pierce averaged 19.5 points for the Celtics last
season. He ranks second in the NBA in steals per game with 2.08.

He was selected in the first round after his junior season at Kansas in
the 1998 draft.

Kevin Jones, Boston police spokesman, wouldn't confirm that Pierce was
the victim, but he said that a stabbing was reported at about 1 a.m.

He said the victim was transported to New England Medical Center and was
reported in ``fair and stable'' condition after being stabbed multiple
times.

``No name has been released until next of kin has been notified,'' he
said.

Jones said there were no suspects identified.
