Re: interesting tidbit about vertical

This thread reminds me of an article in Sports Illustrated when Jordan
started playing baseball. They did a detailed physiological analysis of what
muscles were needed in baseball vs basketball. The bottom line was that few
of MJs hoops muscles were of any use to him in baseball. As we saw after two
years in A ball, right? I don't remember much, but do recall that forearms
play little role in basketball, but a huge role in hitting a baseball.

I don't know much about baseball, but as I recall, MJ's main problem in baseball was that he couldn't hit - i.e., his brain could not compute the velocity and trajectory of a pitched baseball quickly enough. This talk about "baseball muscles", "basketball muscles" with relation to his lack of success in baseball is just folk speak for (lack of) sport-specific motor skills, i.e., a neural computation problem. Forearms or not, I'm sure he had sufficient strength to accelerate a baseball bat as well as most MLB players - he just couldn't place the business end of it in contact with a pitched baseball.

No, but why would they want to? :)
