RE: Pitino Urged/Latest Trade Rumor... It's Time For Celtics Note s

Can you tell I have nothing to do today?

OK... I agree, if you give up Toine you lose your only low-post scorer and
your only chance to really play any kind of inside-out offense. In New York,
even though Houston and Sprewell dominated the ball, the Knicks usually went
to Ewing or even Larry Johnson in the post when they really needed a basket.

So, if you add Houston and subtract Toine, you truly have a
perimeter-oriented lineup. There are a few questions... 1. How much do you
believe in Moiso? He isn't ready to start now, but how about by midseason?
Next season? 2. Can you trade for Othella Harrington? If you can--say for
Cheaney and a pick, or whatever that rumor was--then you have your low-post
scorer. 3. Is Allan Houston this team's Larry Nance? Remember when the Cavs
were knocking on the door in the late 80s and they traded Kevin Johnson and
others for Larry Nance? That team was young, like the Celts, and needed the
perfect veteran fit to push it into contender status. Nance was the right
piece. Johnson certainly had more longevity and a great career, but the Cavs
would never take that deal back. Would the Celts feel the same way about
Houston? 4. Who else comes to Boston? There might be some interesting names
involved. Vladimir Stepania is a promising young center who might be
included in Seattle's package for Ewing. Ruben Patterson? One of the Lakers'
spare parts?

I guess I'd need answers to all those questions before I made a decision,
but I certainly think we're zeroing in on a more legitimate option. If it
makes you think hard about it, it's probably a fair trade. Of course, it all
hinges on the Knicks-Sonics-Lakers deal going down (and whether or not the
Knicks can pry Mutombo away from Atlanta for Houston, which seems to be
their first choice).

I haven't heard anything about that. Boy, that's rough. Give up
Twon and we have no low post threat to speak of. Perimeter
players all around. I don't like it. And that's without giving up
Vitaly. By the way, am I the only one that is absolutely amazed
that New York would balk at getting Glen Rice for Ewing? I mean,
if I were the knicks I would take a Yoo-Hoo and a 3000 pick for
Patrick, who has a world-class attitude problem, a giant fork sticking
out of his back, and one of the biggest salaries in the league. Glen Rice
is still in his prime and can be had cheap.
