RE: Alonzo out for season

I disagree. Miami may be decent, but you can't lose a player like Alonzo at
the center position and remain a true contender. They traded away their
depth for Grant and Jones. Now they're woefully undersized and thin. Plus,
Grant is injury-prone. Eddie Jones would have had more talent around him in
Charlotte.

I'd say Philly has a real shot to emerge. They've been good, but a notch
below Ind/Mia/NY the last couple of years. They've had no real turnover and
have Kukoc for a full season. I like their chances. Milwaukee will be good.
We'll see about Orlando, Indy and New York. I'd say any of those teams have
as good a chance (or better) than Miami.

The difference could come in a deadline deal. Say NY gets Mutombo for
Houston and Camby... there's your top contender.

If you define wide open as now between Miami and Orlando (as opposed to only
Miami), I guess that is wide open. I don't think any other team merits any
consideration. IMHO.
