Jerome Williams

Don't want to distract from a great performance last night (it really
was--even a thoroughly disgusted pessimist like me can admit it; still feel
the same about the team, though)...

Now, a Detroit newspaper (maybe the Free Press... are there any others?) is
reporting that Jerome Williams is on the block. That's not news, of course.
He's been on the block. The talk was he would go to the Clippers, but the
Clips' trade yesterday (sending out Ty Nesby for two Washington big stiffs),
may have killed the Jerome talk. The paper says teams remain interested in
Williams, and it mentions Toronto and Boston specifically.

The Pistons supposedly are looking for a swingman. Toronto figures to be
offering Corliss Williamson. The Celts? Well, we have plenty of swingmen,
but would Detroit be interested in any of them? Eric Williams? No. Chris
Carr? No. Walter McCarty? No. Bryant Stith? Maybe, but he and Stackhouse
seem like pure two-guards to me. Stith's expiring contract probably would be
attractive. Pierce? Sure, but the Celts aren't trading him (don't get me
started), least of all for Jerome Williams.

Anyway, I'm betting this one has some truth to it. Pitino has lusted after
Williams publicly in the past, and he would address a glaring need on this
team (rebounding). He also could guard opposing small forwards, if Pitino
remains convined that Walker can't (another subject I won't get started on).
Something to chew on.

Mark

P.S. Did anyone ever imagine this Celtic team holding an opponent to four
points in a quarter? Ever? That's the most shocking thing I've ever seen.
