Other fundamental problems & The Final Solution

Ok. We need to temper the Pierce dogging a bit. Some of what you are saying
is true. Pierce isn't getting back on D when he should and could be
considered forcing it at times. However, on the other hand he did have 2-4
steals in the half court set. Also, he was the only guy who could do anything
in the game. Overton was a offensive liability. They were sagging off him so
they couldn't reverse the ball. Walker was eating some serious basketball.

Let me tell you of some other contributions that I think were greater
factors.

We were flirting with a double digit lead in the first half and we got a
steal to see Walker pull up on a 2 on 1 and miss a three. The Griz bought it
back on a controlled break, taking it to the basket to get fouled. It was
down hill from there. I think we have gone over enough the problems of not
scoring on a fast break, amplified by shooting a three and the result fast
break from the long rebound (not considering not getting anything out of
steal) (not considering that it would have given us a solid double digit lead
which does some pyschological damage).

With us down by 3 points and 2:30 remaining, Pitino has the press on and they
throw it over the top, Battie has a 1 on two and he has to foul. Why was the
press on when it is a one possession game?

How about the fact that they outrebounded us like crazy? How does Rahim get
21 rebounds? Why is Walker playing power forward?

The final solution

We have played small ball with Walker at power forward since Pitino arrived.
Since we don't play defense anyways, why can't we control the boards and play
a lineup of Point guard, Pierce, Walker, Battie and Blount. Then you got
Stith and VP with a little bit of Erik Williams in the second unit. Pitino
doesn't like it because he doesn't think Pierce and Walker can defend those
spots but it doesn't seem like they can defend where they are at right now so
what do we lose?. We should rebound better which cuts down the second
opportunities, starts fast breaks and reduces their fast breaks. If Walker
and Pierce get beat on D, they got a couple of shot blockers to help out.

This is my suggestion. If this doesn't work, cash it in because I just don't
see any hope for this team unless you make a fundamental change....
