Come on, Gene, you're not THAT old. And Walker and Pierce certainly aren't,
either. We're not talking about a team that has some stars with a couple of
good years left in them that needs a solid role player to complete the
picture. I'm not questioning your evaluation of college players, because
I'm completely lacking in that respect. I just think that, under the new
CBA, you can afford to take a guy that will take an extra year or two to
develop, if he's going to turn out to be the superior player. And, with
virtually every talented player on the team under 25 years old and signed
long term, there's no rush. This team needs as much talent as it can find.
There's going to be some real upside available at 11 this year. And, I'm
telling you, next year, with this year's #11, two picks and Pierce and
Walker both tradeable, this team is going to be in a much stronger position
to contemplate things. If things don't improve this year you'll also be
looking at a new coach/gm and possibly even ownership. So, always take the
most talent available when you pick, and be patient you old dawg, you've
still got a few good years left!
Jim
