Peter May's ineptitude: who can explain it?

Like everyone who reads this digest, other mock drafts sites, or even a
monthly sports magazine, I know that DerMarr Johnson is listed as a
6'9", 200 lb. SG. But Peter May, in his "Sporting News" analysis of the
Celtics' 2000 draft options, suggests that DerMarr Johnson might be able
to shore up the Celtics' weak interior defense, and even enable Antoine
Walker to move over to the 3 spot. Hello? I would love to have Johnson
play SG for the Celtics, although the lottery will probably not fall
out that way, but PF?
Where in the world does May get this information? Why doesn't he check
it?
Can anyone explain what is going on at the Boston Globe and Sporting
News, when no one seems to mind, notice or care about such professional
ineptitude? We can disagree about opinions, which is one of the
enjoyable parts of this list, but we're not getting paid for either
opinions or facts. At the very least, one could expect an "expert" to
get the basic facts right., whether or not one agrees with his opinions.
I also seem to recall that Peter May "discovered" 02 from Nigeria about
2 weeks after people on this list had been regularly posting about
him.Can anyone explain how a person who is paid by the Boston Globe and
Sporting News to provide expert analysis of the Boston Celtics can put
such old news and uninformed nonsense into print? We're fans, we ask
each other questions about facts and opinions; but it' s his job, at the
very least, do get the facts right. ! Don't readers write letters to the
editors? Are the rest of the Globe columnists just as unreliable?
