Trade out of this draft?
I think the players mentioned in the different mocks that the Celt's could
use are going to be gone by #11.
Indiana has a $4.5 trade exception. Anyway to swing the trade through
Indiana along with Croshere and end up with both?
So I wasted two hours thinking what could work for the C's. Please no "your
crazy" remarks, this is just for fun on a rainy day.
Three way with Chi. O'Neil and Augman and Blazer #28 to Chi, Walker, Pot,
Cheaney, Barros, Celt's 2001 Second round pick, Rights to Pepper to Chi for
O'Neil, Chi #24 and Chi #1 next year. Pot, Cheaney, Barros, Celt's second
round 2001, Rights to Pepper to Blazers.
Celt's get: O'Neil, Chi #24 2000 and Chi #1 2001
Chi gets: Walker, Augman, Blazer #28 2000
Blazer's get: Pot, Cheaney, Barro's, Celt's 2001 Second round pick, Rights
to Pepper.
Then
Trade Fort, KA and to LA for Rice
Trade Rice and Battie to Mia for Brown, Mash and Miami #52 2000 Second
round.
Trade Brown and Minor for Croshere and Tabak (Croshere will go sign-n-trade
route)
Sign Mark Jackson F/A (Short term)
Sign "Veteran" FA 4/5 (Short term)
Draft Moisu at #11
Draft Cleaves or best point avail. with the Chi #24 2000 pick.
Celt's pick foreign player a couple years away (Tsak?) With #52.
Celt's end up:
Celt's have 3 #1's in 2001 draft (Celtics, Denver, Chicago)
NBA rights to Tsak or ?.
1. Jackson/Cleaves/CBA player or project
2. PP/AG
3. Mash/Williams/McCarty/
4. Croshere/Moisu
5. O'Neil/ "Veteran" FA/Tabak
Possible back up situations: PP/AG at 3, McCarty at 4-5, O'Neil at 4, Moisu
at 5.
2000/2001 Season would be entertaining and team could maybe make the first
round of the playoffs. Lot's of playing time for the key players and suited
to a platoon rotation with AG as "point 2" with Cleaves as he learns.
Scoring and some defense on both units. Overall a seemingly motivated group
of players with legit skills.
In #2001 have great flexibility to move up in the draft for coveted players
or absorb a lot of decent to great talent at the new "rookie contract" price
allowing team to resign PP/O'Neil/AG or if you get a legit center in 2001
draft you can trade for a lottery pick in 2002 or picks and cap space.
2001 Draft: BPA at Center, SF, Point, depending where Celt's pick. With
three picks, Celt's should be able to trade up to 1-5 if necessary and get a
future big time player to go with PP/O'Neil/Croshere.
Now time to wake up ......
