good news from bskball

This is what I wanted to hear to keep me cheerful. I always have liked
Vaughn
best of the available lower-tier point guards.

07/31-JACQUE VAUGHN LEADS THE C's- The Boston Celtics have resigned
themselves to the fact they won't get a major player in free agency, instead
they are trying to address a need, and Rick Pitino says that need is likely
going to be backup point guard. With Bimbo Coles, Jacque Vaughn and Randy
Brown singled out as the best candidates available to them. The C's might
have dropped the ball on Coles, who according to his agent would have
committed on the spot had an offer been made, but time and other visits may
have changed that feeling, with sources near Coles saying Miami is the most
appealing, but Utah has surfaced also, and may offer a larger role. Pitino
has worked out Jacque Vaughn and spoke highly of him, and the C's are quick
to point out he has a relationship with Paul Pierce from their collegiate
days at Kansas. Randy Brown has been very popular these past few days, but
an informed source he may be 3rd on the list, with Vaughn looking to be the
match the C's are hoping for. The Celtics are also not out of the hunt on
Ron Mercer, he has yet to make a decision regarding the Bulls or the Nets
(who as of today still have not heard from the league regarding their
medical exception, still under review is the word). Boston says they may
hold off until Mercer is settled, but expect and hope to have someone signed
in the first few days of the signing period. There is hope that if Mercer
bails out on Chicago and NJ that he would sign for the $2.25 in Boston,
allowing them to secure Vaughn or Brown with the $1.2 million exception. Its
been viewed as unlikely that Coles or Brown would seriously consider the
$1.2 million exception.
