07/21-WARRIORS WOULD TRADE FOR FORTSON- Danny Fortson was in the Oakland
area yesterday to tour the Warriors practice facility and talk with the
team. The meeting included all of the gimmicks one could expect from a
college recruiting trip...Jerseys with his name and number, GM's wearing
"Welcome Danny" t-shirts...the whole boat. After that meeting its basically
been said that if a deal could be worked for Fortson, they'd love to have
him long term. Its also been said if he makes Golden State his top spot,
they'll guarantee a starting spot, likely pushing Donyell Marshall and Chris
Mills to the bench.  Danny is not a skilled offensive player, but is a
furious rebounder, and a very physical player. Acquired by Boston in the
trade sending out Ron Mercer. Danny has now been traded something like 4
times, including one deal that was nixed last minute. Danny has said he just
wants a stable home, and a contract that protects his interests. Fortson had
been offered a $4 million a season deal from Boston, which he declined. The
Knicks had expressed a lot of interest in Fortson, but cap complications
have made a deal almost impossible. The Orlando Magic have also expressed
interest in Fortson as have the LA Lakers. The Warriors are now trying to
piece together a package that could get Fortson into Golden State, but as
both teams are over the cap, a deal may be a little tougher than it seems.
No players have been mentioned, but you can assume Boston wants a point
guard and a power player. The Warriors have a ton of SF types, and would
love to deal one of them. Seeing that Boston has had Chris Mills already,
they may be more interested in Marshall, as the fruit of any deal.
