the Magic
The thing with the magic is that it's true,
it's incredible to take a .500 team and add
the two best forwards in the NBA, along with
the best young swingman. But Orlando is going
to have a whole new team next year, and it remains
to be seen if they gel and function like last year's
no-names did. Hill and Duncan will dominate in
clear outs, but I don't think that Hill and Duncan
have the same kind of defensive presence as Robinson
and Duncan did. Nor do I think Orlando will be able to
go very long with giving in and playing Tim Duncan as a
center, which is what he is. (The interesting thing about
the old celtics was that McHale and Parish were really
playing each other's natural positions in a lot of ways.)
Orlando w/ Duncan is pretty scary, though, and borderline
unfair. But they're not a lock to win the east, once some
good new teams emerge in a couple of years. Great teams
on paper have a way of not living up sometimes.
