More notes on Shaw League roster

Boston Herald today again confirms that Bobby Hurley and JaRon Rush
are expected to participate in the Shaw League. Moiso will only be
around for the first four days, before going to France (all Froggies
take the summer off, especially native Parisians). Another new name is
Roberto Bergerson, who last year scored a pedestrian 7.7 ppg on .442
shooting for the CBA Idaho Stampede. The 24-year-old was a second round
pick of the Atlanta Hawks and was later traded to Portland, after
averaging over 22ppg for Boise State.

Analysis
By George Rodecker
Special to SportsLine
A highly athletic player from Obscurity, USA, Bergersen has shown an
unorthodox release on his shot, yet an ability to all too frequently
make it.
Despite the lofty stats, he is an ordinary shooting guard, who despite
being
well sized for the position offers little in the way of special skills.
Despite
little quality and even less demand for shooting guards in this draft,
Bergersen may ride his athleticism to the near end of the second round.

A guy with the best theoretical shot at making the team as a backup
pointguard-- 6-5 David Vanterpool of the CBA champion Yakima Sun Kings--
incidentally led the CBA last year with two triple doubles. As noted
yesterday, his CBA regular season stats were very well-rounded and
solid. He stepped it up a bit in the playoff series, shooting .520 from
the field for 13.3ppg, 6.3 rpg and 4.3 apg. His teammate and fellow
Celtics' invitee, Silas Mills, poured in 26.3ppg on a .473FG% with 6.0
boards in the CBA finals. Both Vanterpool and Mills are 27.

In terms of size, Vanterpool has an advantage over Bobby Hurley. It
would be a great story if a former champion like Hurley makes a big
comeback, but he just doesn't seem to fit the new Pitino blueprint.
