                    The Nuggets' nosedive has made it practical (and 
probably mandatory) that
                    they jettison Ron Mercer before the February 24 trade 
deadline, however. For a
                    hundred reasons: They're $9 million over the cap, they 
have no clue as to who
                    will own the team this summer, Mercer's agent wants the 
maximum (which he
                    won't get -- anywhere), and they don't know who will be 
making the financial
                    decisions for a lottery-bound team. . . .
