Well, a few on this list got the Fortson/Mercer trade right from day one. I
don't think there's any other way to spin it. Could Pitino have gotten more
for Ron at the time? This from Peter Vecsey:

Issel had the guy figured out, and I wonder how many other gm's did also?
There certainly were a lot of "Just shocked!" quotes from executives around
the league when Pitino made this deal.

However, the good news is that the Blazers beat the crap out of San Antonio
again. Duncan and Robinson stink it up and it continues to look like it was
the 50 game schedule after all.

Small solace, I know,  but I fear Pitino is going to blow it again with a
Walker trade, and my dark doubts about Pierce being "injury prone" year
after year have begun to rise to the surface. He's not exactly "tough" and
that was a concern coming out of college. Oh well.... Duncan goes to
Chicago or Orlando and is never in the playoffs again and Walker gets
traded to Indiana and they just get better and better. I can dream.
