DALLAS - The Dallas Mavericks are interested in pulling some Washington
Wizardry of their own and hiring an NBA legend for an executive position,
according to Tuesday's Chicago Sun-Times.

Bird has expressed interest in becoming the Pacers' president of basketball
operations. Current president Donnie Walsh said he gladly would step aside
to keep Bird in the organization.

My understanding is that Bird's moving up in the Pacers' organization
was agreed to when he became coach. As part of his contract, he would
coach about 3 years and move on up, in a way similar to Pitino's
contract. All this talk about Bird coming to Beantown, Dallas, etc,
seems off-base as he has a signed contract (hello, Bill Belichick).
