Bruce Bowen claimed

FYI

MIAMI - The Miami Heat waived veteran guard Rex Walters and claimed swingman
Bruce Bowen off waivers Wednesday from the Chicago Bulls.
The club also announced that it placed rookie guard Rodney Buford on the
injured list with tendonitis in his right knee.

A 1993 first-round pick of the New Jersey Nets, Walters was averaging 2.8
points and 2.0 assists in 33 games this season. He started the season as the
backup to point guard Tim Hardaway but saw his playing time decrease with
the success of rookie Anthony Carter.

Walters, 29, enjoyed his best season in 1996-97 for the Philadelphia 76ers,
averaging 6.8 points in 59 games.

Bowen, 28, who also played for Miami in 1996-97, was part of a three-team
deal that sent him from Philadelphia to Chicago on February 16. He did not
play in any games with the Bulls and is averaging 1.4 points in 42 games
this season.

In his rookie season out of Creighton, Buford is averaging 3.1 points in 21
games. He scored a season-high 17 points in a 115-100 victory over Golden
State earlier this month.
