I do not agree with the proposed trade, but consider this:
With the current roster, the Celtics could very well become a
middle-of-the-road team for years...making the playoffs most of the time, and
never getting a serious shot at a championship or a high lotto pick. If you
really want the team to have a shot, you either need to take a gamble on
hitting a home run in a trade like this, or blow up the team like the
Bulls/Magic. The proposed trade of Pierce is one example of the first
option. If it fails, you are stuck with the second.
