Ball hog

                         Ron Mercer isn't planning a long stay in
Orlando. The Magic acquired him from Denver last
                         week, but his agent has already started
investigating which teams would be willing to give
                         Mercer the maximum $71 million contract when he
becomes a free agent after the season. But
                         any team interested in signing Mercer should
take note of how happy most of his ex-Denver
                         teammates were when he left. Several Nuggets
said the team immediately improved without
                         Mercer dominating the ball on offense.
