agents, free agency and playing time

In the old days, you could build a team. Now with the salary cap and
agents telling you what they are going to do, and free agency, trades
like the Fortson trade, and the Mercer trade, happen because the teams
know the player will not resign. In the old days, you could have worked
with Fortson and gotten him where he needed to be, but now, if he
doesn't get the playing time he "deserves" right away, the agent lays
his threat and he gets traded. Something for nothing. It sucks, but
that's the way of the NBA.

PS I think Glenn Rice should have signed while he had the chance. If
he doesn't come on soon, he could be losing market value. What do you
think?

This trade was not what Boston wanted to do, it was done for
non-basketball reasons.
