EAST DIVISION

Sparked by the return of guard Wayne Turner, the Cincinnati
Stuff won two of three games last week to improve their record
to 19-6. Turner, who had missed six straight games with an
ankle sprain, averaged 11.7 points, 4.7 assists and 2.0 steals
in three games. In a 98-86 victory against San Diego on January
30, he made his first start since the injury and scored 20
points on 9-of-18 shooting. Despite the win, Cincinnati played
sloppy as it committed 23 turnovers which led to 22 points for
the Stingrays. However, Turner did not turn the ball over in 43
minutes, indicating his value to the team. Tremaine Fowlkes,
who averaged 22 points and 8.7 rebounds during the week, had a
game-high 21 points in the triumph. Forward Alex Sanders
continued his strong play as he averaged 18 points and 7.7
rebounds in three starts. Sanders, who has scored in double
figures in 16 consecutive games, posted a season-high 24 points,
including 12 in the first quarter, in a 106-87 blowout win
against Trenton on January 26. Guard Roderick Blakney, who is
the only player on the team to start in every game, scored 17.3
points per game and handed 5.7 assists last week. Against San
Diego, Blakney netted eight points in the fourth quarter to seal
the victory for the Stuff, who are 13-1 at home. Cincinnati
lost its lone game of the week, 92-89, on January 28 at
Baltimore. Fowlkes led the team with 21 points and eight
rebounds. After opening the season 11-0 against the East
Division, the Stuff have dropped two of their last three to
divisional opponents.
