In defense of Gaston

Most people have been saying what a lousy/cheap owner Gaston is, but I
feel the opposite way. Reasons are:

1) he paid top dollars to sign above average (during that time) FAs
(Barros, Minor, Pervis). It is just our luck the players suck after
getting their big payday.

2) he made Pitino the highest paid coach in the nba. During that time,
everybody agreed Pitino is the right man for the job.

3)he paid AW the max. He would have paid 14mil per before the lockout
(Pitino said he got the juice to pay up to this level)

Also, I agree with Gaston (and Stern) that we field a competitive by
managing within the cap. If you do things like the blazers, winning a
nba is meaningless, as you can just "buy" a ring.
