RE: Globe: Celts want Chris Carr

I disagree. Any team, even a champion, depends
on the efficacy of its reserves. Basketball isn't a
sport -- though it may seem like one sometimes --
in which all that matters are the abilities of one or
two stars. If a team like the Celtics are suffering
scoring droughts when the starters are out, and when
a guy on the bench is a proven, money-in-the-bank
scorer, getting his game screwed on straight can make
a big difference. I would like to see a big trade too,
but in fact this group, playing up to their potential and
as a team, is a middle-of-the-pack playoff team in the
East. I believe that still. I think that the disastrous road
trip and the injuries to Pierce and Griffin killed us last
year, and that the March swoon where we dropped ten
games in a row was essentially the team throwing in the
towel. Defense is what we really need, to protect us
from the other team always making big plays at the end
of games, or being in a position to be so. And defense
is not something you need stars to play.
