Boston signs a free agent!

Celtics Sign Blount

BOSTON, Aug. 1 — The Boston Celtics announced on Tuesday that they signed
free agent center Mark Blount. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Blount, 25, earned a place on the Celtics' roster with his play at the 2000
Shaw's Pro Summer League. In eight games from July 17 through July 24, the
6-10 Blount averaged 10.3 points on 25-of-45 (.545) shooting and just over
four rebounds per contest.

Following his sophomore season at the University of Pittsburgh, Blount
declared himself eligible for the 1997 NBA Draft. He was selected in the
second round (55th overall) by the Seattle SuperSonics. After being waived by
Seattle during the 1997-98 season, Blount first signed with Sioux Falls
SkyForce of the CBA and then with the Baltimore Bay Runners of the IBL for
the entire 1999-00 campaign, in which he averaged more than 17 points and 10
rebounds over 54 games.
