Sanchez chosen in first round

Staff and Wire Reports
Temple guard Pepe Sanchez was selected by Atlantic City yesterday with the final pick of the first round, No. 11 overall, in the United States Basketball League draft.
Seven area players were chosen in the 88-player draft to help stock the 11-team summer professional league. The USBL offers a chance to high-caliber college players and others who are ignored or overlooked by the NBA and other pro leagues.
Atlantic City used its second and fourth picks to select Villanova's Malik Allen (No. 21 overall) and Penn's Matt Langel (No. 41).
Also chosen were: Temple's Lamont Barnes by New Jersey (second round, No. 20); Delaware's Mike Pegues by Washington (fourth, No. 44); Penn's Michael Jordan by Pennsylvania (fifth, No. 49); and Villanova's Brian Lynch by New Jersey (sixth, No. 60).
Oklahoma chose Oklahoma State point guard Doug Gottlieb with the first overall pick.
The regular season opens April 21 and continues through June 25.
