Boston Celtics vs. Orlando Magic

Ron Mercer and the Orlando Magic will visit the FleetCenter tonight to take on the Celtics.  Game time is at 7 p.m.

The Orlando Magic have used a teamwork approach all year.  Ten different players have led the team in scoring this season.   Despite not having a superstar, Orlando is right in the heart of a playoff race.  They lead Milwaukee by one game in the fight for the final spot in the Eastern Conference.

Tonight is the final match-up between the Celtics and the Magic.  The Boston Celtics will be trying to match the franchise record for wins at the FleetCenter tonight.  The 1997-98 Celtics currently hold the mark with 24 wins on the parquet floor.  The current squad stands at 23-14 at home after beating the Hawks on Monday.

Old friend Ron Mercer, who was acquired by Orlando on February 1st, has come in and taken over as the Magic’s top scorer.  The former Celtic (and Nugget) is averaging 16.9 points per game.  Darrell Armstrong, last season’s NBA Sixth Man of the Year, has stepped into a starting role and emerged as the heart and soul of the Magic all year.  His 16.2 ppg is second only to Mercer on the team, and he also leads the club in assists, steals and minutes played. 

The Celtics and Orlando have had three shootouts already this season, with each team protecting its home court.  Orlando has won both contests in Florida, while Boston has a victory in their only meeting at the FleetCenter.  The Celtics will try to even that season series tonight.

Tickets are still available for tonight’s contest at the FleetCenter.
