Not sure I understand what you are trying to say here.  Modern medecine
notwithstanding, it is still an enormous emotional experience dealing with
grief, and in some cases, guilt.  Do you really think O'Neill would rather
have been there or assisting in burial plans for the man who gave him life?
All our lives, most of us are taught that family comes first.  I can
definitely empathize with what he was feeling.

There could be mega-pressure on them to stay with their family during their
bereavement period.  What if he was an only child and his dad introduced him
to the game and coached him in little league and such?

Though I hate the Yankees, I must say that they have had to deal with a fair
share of misfortune over the past couple of years.  Torre's brother, Torre's
illness, Strawberry's illness, Sojo's father last week, O'Neill's father
this week.
