The problem the FSU people had with the early plea-bargain was jail
time for a first offense, non-violent, less than felony level (when
the two cases were separated--$420 divided by two) crime, especially
when the girl who initiated the scam got probation.  It was a case of
athlete stupidity and system over-reaction.  The accepted plea seems
to be just.  Had he been a legislator's son or equivalent, no one
would have heard of it.  Anyway, I hope he's wised up.  A lot of
people will condemn him and then turn around and mail a check to
George W; we tend to show mercy to whom we choose.  Gene
