Spree for real

It seems that Spree's teammates feel that he owes them an explanation
for his absence.  Out of respect for them.

Now seriously, I don't think Spree does respect them.  But, I really do
think that he just didn't want to go through two a day practices in SC
so he didn't show up until they got back to NY.
