That last line by Vescey was truly tasteless. As I understand it, Kermit
Washington struck Tomjanovich in the face with such force that it not
only ended his near All Star level career but put Rudy T. at the brink
of death, shattering his face and requiring several major operations and
facelifts. Rudy T was rushing Kermit from behind to either break up or
join a fight between Kermit and one of his teammates. Kermit caught
sight of him out of the corner of his eye, turned and slugged him. For
this, he got banned from the league for a season and villified by fans,
with some racial overtones to boot.
